Wednesday 24th May 2006
well things really have been quiet haven't they? a peedie flurry of activity just now though; we ve just got back from cannes, where we had a gig at the film festival, and have orkney folk fest starting tomorrow. we re playing with croft no 5 on friday, lazy boy chair are 'stomping' on saturday, and it's the two of us on sunday afternoon at the supplement conceert.
france was fine and relaxed. took an extra day this time, since last year was such a rush. managed to get sunburnt, saw a band called 'spooky pussys' and spent £202.87 on food. don't know how much doug spent.
anyhows. got to go and practice for the weekend. if you see me there, buy me an export! or a plate o chips.
Tuesday 11th April 2006
well, hoots was ok - although it was the usual saturday pub crowd - only half listening. never mind, good hospitality and i wrote a jig in the break :-) also got asked to submit a track for a hoots sampler, so can't see why not.
we re a bit thin on the ground for upcoming performances, although there ll be some tunes at the orkney fest, and a wee trip in july. have a look at the gig guide. i ll not post them here till nearer the time.
Tuesday 28th March 2006
we ll be in hootanannies, inverness on saturday 1st april. if we re there in time, you could buy us wur tea :-)
the aberdeenshire gigs were just out of this world. every night a roaring success, and special thanks to bryony, susan and dave for making it so good. we had a right good laugh, were spectacularly well fed (pheasant soup) and they were the best concerts in a long time.. from a lot of highlights, i was quite taken with the moment after the saturday concert when a sleepwalking bob gibbon tried to find his accordion in jim and bryony's coolerbag.

just back from austin texas where we played in the scottish showcase alongside other acts including fiddlers bid, karine polwart . blazin fiddles and back of the moon. our first trip across the pond and hopefully no the last. did a lot o playin, a lot o eating and no much sleeping. had a trip out o town wi a couple o the bid boys too - quite an experience. it s a different world, although doug is used to folk locking their doors as he crosses the street in burray village as well :-)

Tuesday 8th November 2005
again, no updated this for ages, and i ve given up trying to keep the guestbook unblocked, but here s what i sent out to the papers here in orkney today-
We're releasing our new album, Orkney Twister, with a free concert in Fusion on Thursday 24th November.
We've taken our time with the recording process. We started in January and only put down the final track in mid October. We've just done a night here, a night there - whenever we had a minute. We do all the recording ourselves, wherever we can get set up and have a few hours to work at it. We had better equipment this time - such as microphones and a newer mixing desk - and I'm really pleased with the results.
The album's named after a reel written by Catriona Price. The tune isn't actually on it, but we sometimes play it live, and felt that the name neatly summed up what the album is about.
It's mostly our own compositions, although there are a few of Davey Eunson's tunes on there, and one of Gordon Harvey's, among others. We've had a busy time of it this past few years, so a lot of the album's been well 'played in' before we came to record it. Some of it was written on our travels - one of the songs came up on the boat to Stornoway - and some between recordings. A few of them have turned out completely different to how we do them live.
After the launch in Fusion, we're going down to Aberdeenshire to play on Friday and Saturday nights in Crathes and Glassel respectively. With all the work that goes into an album, we've not had much time to plan many gigs, although I'm hopeful we'll do a few between now and next year. I was on the phone to someone from HAIL music yesterday though, and it's just confirmed that we're going out to Texas in February for a few gigs, so there's plenty to look forward to.
Wednesday 22nd June 2005 - all quiet
well.....
i ve just moved back home, and between selling, buying, and all the other shite, therre s no been much time for keeping this up to date. first off, i ve given up trying to keep the guestbook clear. tom has a new look for the site and thinks he s got it sussed for that relaunch. at present we can only erase one message ata time without having to log in again.
new album.
should be ready by end o july. hopeful for a release maybe august time???
recent gigs.

did a slot at the orkney ff. great fun, but all too brief.
been to inverness for beltane fest. good setup, good hospitality, but somewhat lacking in crowd. it s a shame for all the work that obviously went into it. hopefully they ll persevere and things might get busier for them.
coming soon.

nottiinghamshire 27th, 28th. hartlepool 29th. aboyne 30th.
i know aboyne s not in england, but it s a heck of a lot further sooth now than when i lived in aberdeen! that gig's a shooglenifty support btw.
there you go. that s a sketch o what s been happening.
